"Cyclone Biparjoy" is approaching. Be ready.
Cyclone Biparjoy is a tropical cyclone that formed over the Southeast Arabian Sea on June 6, 2023. It is the first cyclone to form in the Arabian Sea this season. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to the West Coast of India.
As of June 7, 2023, Cyclone Biparjoy is a severe cyclonic storm with winds gusting up to 155 kilometers per hour. It is located about 900 kilometers west-southwest of Goa. The cyclone is moving northwards at a speed of 5 kilometers per hour.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the coastal districts of Gujarat, including Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Bhavnagar. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for the coastal districts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad.
The cyclone is expected to make landfall in Gujarat on June 10. After landfall, the cyclone is expected to weaken and move into Pakistan.
