Cyclone Biparjoy Escalates In Next 36 Hours: Meteorological Department.

At 3:42 AM PST on June 9, 2023, live updates revealed that the Biparjoy Cyclone is presently situated at 19.6°N 87.5°E, approximately 220 km southwest of Chennai, India. The cyclone is currently moving towards the northeast at a speed of 15 km/h and is expected to hit Chennai on June 10. It has maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h and is anticipated to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to Chennai and the surrounding regions.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Chennai and the surrounding districts under the international protocol. The red alert implies that there is a high risk of life-threatening weather conditions.

The IMD officials have announced the onset of monsoon over Kerala on Thursday, despite concerns about the Biparjoy Cyclone affecting the start of the monsoon season along the southwestern coast.

The weather department has predicted strong winds and high waves along the Mumbai coast. The city is likely to experience scattered showers with occasional heavy rainfall due to the onset of the monsoon season later this week, the IMD said.

The storm is likely to cause gusts of wind and monsoon winds in the coastal regions of Gujarat and Saurashtra. Many regions in Gujarat are gearing up for the probable consequences of the cyclone.

The authorities have directed the fishermen of Porbandar to come back to the shore from the deep sea regions. The officials have initiated arrangements to relocate the inhabitants from vulnerable coastal regions.
